As a Charging Performance Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring high-quality, reliable, and customer-centric charging performance by developing and continuously enhancing the testing landscape. In this role, you serve as the quality owner and key point of contact for testing, ensuring that test strategies address both technical requirements and the needs and perspectives of all relevant stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take end-to-end ownership of charging performance testing quality for HPC chargers (≥350 kW), covering both all-in-one and power-distributed architectures, with focus on communication, power delivery, and user experience.
- Define and continuously improve end-to-end charging test scenarios (manual and partially automated), including regression testing after firmware updates, based on real-world use cases observed in public charging networks.
- Perform conformance and interoperability testing for EV-charger communication protocols, including CCS Type 2, ISO 15118-2 / -20, and DIN SPEC 70121, ensuring correct implementation and behaviour across different OEMs.
- Analyze and debug charging issues using protocol-level and system-level data, including. pcap traces (Wireshark), charger logs, and backend communication logs (OCPP, OCPI/OICP)
- Work hands-on with testing and simulation tools, including PLC communication boards (eg. Keysight-Verisco) and vehicle emulators to simulate and validate charging scenarios
- Collaborate closely with charger manufacturers, backend teams, and OEMs to clarify issues, challenge technical solutions, and align on improvements
- Contribute to testing standards and methodologies, influencing release decisions by providing data-driven recommendations on software quality and interoperability readiness
